So I am starting a matcha company.

DeAnna is one of those people who is always creating and celebrating her community—and one of those people who it is simply so easy to enourage and be encouraged by on social media. I was thrilled when she expressed interest in zooming with me to share a bit about her expereince with the pandemic in Jacksonville, Florida.

Please enjoy her story—technical gliches and all :)

I saw a lot of signs of grieve, like wide spread signs of grief, but they didn’t know what it was. And for context, the only reason I knew what it was is because Brock’s brother passed away really suddenly last year.
When everything started... just like the doom scrolling, and the collective panic of people buying things, just so many things happening really publicly because everyone was going through it...and I would have conversations with people where they were describing grief, in ways that were really intense. Like I can’t sleep and all my dreams are really vivid.

I felt more prepared for it. How can you prepare for grief unless you’ve experienced it?

We got a bigger place so we could start running our businesses out of this place.

It was a chance... and we decided to go with it.

We turned our garage...into an event live room...a control room, up to processional studio quality.

Brok is in the music industry... has really been a rollercoaster. That’s been the most volatile. We don’t know when music venues will come back or if they will.

He was in Chicago on March 15 and flew back. So really in the cusp...He got out in time, so thank goodness.

We’ve always wanted to have the space for a studio... and for me to provide the creative direction. And this really provided the time to do it.

Our whole industry is shut down, and what are we going to do about it?...We all went through the virtual event stage... that had kind of ran it’s course... I think we get really black mirror-y when we try to do stuff like that.

We officially launched the studio, probably like a month ago now. ... a very ripe time for people to rally around things, especially more community things.
