Dispatches from many places
Twenty twenty three I turned thirty. I moved to the arctic from the Hawaiian islands and solo traveled a lot. I fell in love.
In twenty twenty four I want to improve and enjoy my film photography more.
So here’s a photo diary shot of film of the last year. Photos are accompanied by journal entries.
Let’s start with the end of the Hawaiian magic
Then in midst of the sun returning to the icy world, I moved to the arctic. Glimmers of magic fell into place there too.
I next had the opportunity to travel to the Grand Canyon to attend a truly legendary training, Fundamentals. The colors of the desert warmed my soul as much as the heat from the sun did.
My next work trip took me to Seward, and allowed me to bring along a life long friend! I met Jackie in an interview to get into a first year abroad course on the history of Jordan. We both got in and were roommates for the trip. We spent the rest of our college years taking many classes together confusing professors about who was who. She’s a huge blessing and was wonderful she could join.
Somewhere in all of this— I fell in love. I danced under northern lights so very cold, ice fished a lot, watched the ice break, took boat rides to amazing places, picked berries, destroyed a roll of film from an amazing camp out on Chamisso Island, and traveled to numerous villages. Every new experience took my breath away. I didn’t capture all of it.
Turning thirty, I muck away to the Soča Valley of Slovenia, and other places for a few weeks.
First the small and beautiful city of Ljubljana, explored both solo and with my friend Moriah.
Next to Stero Stelo in the valley where the river cooled me and I saw o‘opu cousins, and met a cast of characters.
Then to the winding world of Venice.
And the over stimulating world and over exposed film of Sicily
Found some quiet in the hills, stories, and gentle bustle of Trieste.
Made my way back to Ljubljana to say farewell. And attend that Michelin Star thing ;)
I took more pictures while I was back home — of Jim, and caribou, and the truck I bought. I went to Hawai‘i to wrap up the year in the big hugs of my friends in Hāna and Kalaupapa. Finally, I welcomed 2024 in Pittsburg with my first ever midnight kiss. Actually it was after 1am because we were too invested to Titanic.
(I’ll add these when I get the scans).
